These dogs are very people-oriented and easy to care for. However, they cannot do without a company and should not be left alone for a long time. The breed has been around for several centuries, and it descended from the ancient Techichi dog dating back to the times of Aztecs and Toltecs. Nowadays, this is the smallest dog in the world and it makes a superb pet. These canines have a saucy and vivacious temperament, and they can be suspicious of strangers and unfamiliar dogs. They are very fragile and hence are not recommended for young children.

This organization was established in 1999 to help homeless purebred dogs find new loving homes. Adoptive homes are asked to donate $200 for each dog to cover the expenses on vet checks and care, vaccination, spaying or neutering, transportation and fostering. Dogs born in puppy mills often become abandoned because of some health problems. There are practically no perfect and young dogs available for adoption, but elderly pets have their own advantages: they are already housebroken and require less activity than puppies.
