Chihuahua Rescue

Chihuahua Rescue clubs specialize in finding, treating and finding new homes for lost or stray Chihuahuas. As a rule, rescue clubs deal in more than one breeds, although those that concentrate on one particular breed cooperate with other rescue clubs. Unfortunately, there is always a lot or work for rescue organizations to do, and there are much more lost Chihuahuas than they can accept.

Chihuahua Rescue organizations are non-profit volunteer clubs, whose activity is funded by various sponsors. They also live by donations from people willing to surrender their dogs, as well as from those willing to adopt a rescued dog. Chihuahua Rescues provide all sorts of help to their dogs, including veterinary assistance, inoculation, behavior correction programs, socialization, training, etc. Upon finding a potential dog adopter, they do not sell their dogs without making sure this is the right owner. Like true breeders, rescue specialists take great care about what the dog’s life is going to be like in his new home and if the adopter is competent enough to handle such a dog.

Chihuahuas are very tiny and delicate dogs. They require specific care, because they are extremely susceptible to traumas and fractures. Besides, they are very sensitive to drastic temperature fluctuations, and hence they are prone to cold and breathing difficulties. Most dogs accepted by Chihuahua Rescue Clubs have serious health disorders and therefore require intensive treatment. Chihuahuas measure 6-10 inches high at the withers. They have characteristic apple-shaped heads, large eyes, and very large erectile ears. They have a deep and broad chest and a sickle-shaped tail. Chihuahuas can be long-haired and short-haired. Standards are not strict on the coat color, so all color permutations are acceptable.

Chihuahuas are gentle and sweet by nature, and they are more intelligent than some people think. They are not intended for work, but they enjoy games and interaction. These dogs are well accustomed to apartment life, but they are also fond of various outdoor activities. Chihuahuas are quite willful and protective dogs. They can be wary of strangers, and some species are very dog-aggressive. Besides, these dogs can be snappy with children, as they are intolerant of teasing. More often than not, Chihuahuas develop this behavior because owners are often tempted to carry them in their arms too much because of their small size and delicate appearance. For this reason, many Chihuahuas are spoilt, and this is one more reason why they land up in Chihuahua Rescue organizations.
